Currency of Cuba
The National Currency is the Cuban Peso (CUP), which are 100 cents. Circulate bills of 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 pesos, and fractional coins of 1 and 3 pesos and of 1, 2, 5 y 20 cents. Also circulates Convertible Cuban Peso (CUC), used as a change for foreign currency with the official exchange rate.
Nowadays, a unity of the Convertible Cuban Peso (CUC) is like 24 unities of Cuban Peso (CUP)
The CUC are not valid or expendable outside the Cuban territory. For the tourist services the currency is the CUC, which you can have access to all the available products and services.
The currency exchange for convertible Peso (CUC), are according to the exchange rate of the different currency attending the fluctuation on the world market, it can be exchanged in airports, banks, hotels, exchange houses (CADECA) and big stores or malls.
Besides, in Cuba you’ll find the Bank network and automatic teller machines (ATM), located in different places in the different tourist destinations.
In Cuba you can use some credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Access, Eurocard, Banamex, and others, with its specifications) but we recommend always carrying cash.
